Billiani presents new collections of chairs and tables, adding the names of Constance Guisset and Philippe Bestenheider to its roster of designers and continuing the collaboration with Cristina Celestino, art director of the company. With the setup of these pieces in a villa from the 1950s designed by Carlo Scarpa, Billiani moves forward with its evolution, expanding beyond new boundaries.
The intimate domestic atmosphere reflects the brand’s decisive entry into the world of home furnishings. The choice of this historic residence created by the great Venetian architect breaks down temporal barriers, conveying a timeless image of the space and the products. A villa built in Friuli Venezia Giulia towards the end of the 1950s is one of the first residential buildings designed by the Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa.
The project comes from the same period as Scarpa’s masterpieces such as the Olivetti store and the ground floor of Fondazione Querini Stampalia in Venice, works that ratified his role as one of the greatest Italian contemporary architects. The villa features many characteristics that were to become recurring traits in Scarpa’s architecture. Sliding doors, hidden passages and two-story zones make the rooms fluid and mutable, in perfect spatial continuity.
The indoor-outdoor relationship is of fundamental importance. Every window offers fine views of trees and the garden, or glimpses of the inside from the open-air spaces. The remarkable wall decorations create an ideal connection between the interiors and the nature outside.
